To be honored at the VBSR Legislative Breakfast December 9

Vermont Business Magazine Vermont Businesses for Social Responsibility (VBSR) has recognized Democratic Vermont State Representative Tim Briglin from Thetford (Windsor-Orange 2) with their 2022 VBSR Legislator of the Year Award. Rep. Briglin will be honored as Legislator of the Year during the 2022 VBSR Legislative Breakfast on December 9 when VBSR will also announce its 2023 legislative agenda.

VBSR is a statewide, nonprofit business association with a mission to leverage the power of business for positive social and environmental impact. VBSR supports legislation that centers on Vermont’s economic strengths, universal healthcare, workplace quality, environmental protection, and movement towards local, renewable energy sources.

“As someone who believes deeply in the power and obligation of business to make a positive impact on society, I’m humbled by this recognition from VBSR,” said Rep. Briglin. “In my time as a state legislator, my work has focused on the affordability of health care, universal access to broadband service, and laying a foundation for accountability and resilience in the face of the climate emergency facing our state. These are all issues on which VBSR has been a crucial ally and a trusted resource to support the progress we’ve made in Vermont. A business community that champions a healthy environment, the needs of working families, and the economic health of our state will be crucial if we are to make continued progress with these challenges.”

He has represented the towns of Norwich, Sharon, Strafford, and Thetford for the past eight years in the Vermont House. The last four years he has chaired the House Committee on Energy & Technology and is a member of the Joint Fiscal Committee. Briglin did not seek reelection this fall.

Rep. Briglin steered investments in Vermont’s climate workforce and was a leader in leveraging state and federal funds for broadband deployment across the state. He was also lead sponsor of Vermont’s benchmark climate law, the Global Warming Solutions Act and a champion for raising the minimum wage, universal paid family leave, affordable healthcare, and child care reform.

“Representative Briglin has been an invaluable partner to VBSR and a true champion for socially responsible business in the Vermont statehouse,” said VBSR’s Public Policy Manager, Jordan Giaconia. “As Chair of the House Committee on Energy and Technology, he played a pivotal role in advancing key legislation in the climate, broadband, and workforce development spaces and has been a trusted ally not only for his outstanding public advocacy, but also his in-depth knowledge on many of the most pressing issues impacting our state’s economy. As he departs the legislature, Representative Briglin is leaving a legacy of service, impact, and leadership that is deep and far-reaching. For all of this and more, we are pleased to offer him the 2022 VBSR Legislator of the Year Award.”

After two decades of involvement in Vermont politics, Rep. Briglin, a Democrat, was first elected to the General Assembly in 2014. He had previously worked on multiple Leahy, Welch, Markowitz, and Obama campaigns. In the early-1990s, Briglin worked in Washington, D.C. for Senator Patrick Leahy as his legislative assistant on budget, tax, and economic issues. He was on the Vermont delegation to the 2008 and 2012 Democratic National Conventions and has been the Treasurer of the Vermont Democratic Party.

Rep. Briglin graduated with honors from Cornell University in 1988 with a degree in History and Government and, in 1995, received an MBA from Stanford University. He is currently a managing partner at Tuckerman Capital, a firm he co-founded in 2001, a director of Mascoma Bank, and a trustee of the Windham Foundation. Briglin and his wife Laurel have two college-age boys.

Registration for the 2022 VBSR Legislative Breakfast is still open and the popular gathering of VBSR members, policymakers, advocates, and state officials is expected to sell out. The annual event takes place on Friday, December 9, from 8:00-10:00 a.m. at The Main Street Landing Performing Arts Center, 60 Lake Street, Burlington. Host Sponsor is The Main Street Landing Performing Arts Center; Lead Sponsors are Paul Frank + Collins, Seventh Generation and Sugarsnap Catering; Supporting Sponsors are Let’s Grow Kids and UVM Medical Center.
